Pool Meadow Project

‘Currents’ is a textile piece inspired by the forest stream in Pool Meadow created using beautiful linen fabric, dyed and painted with my natural inks and paints. The pulled threads give the impression of ripples in the stream and grommets around the holes represent stones. I love the way the water currents curl around the stones creating beautiful waving shapes. It is wonderful how streams reflect their surroundings, reminding me that water is not only blue, but also green and brown reflecting the plants, trees and soil that surrounds them.’

‘Horsetail Reed’ is a hollow sculpture created from waxed linen painted with coffee and walnut ink. Pulled threads mimick the rippled segments in the Giant Horsetail reeds that dominate Pool Meadow. Found fishing wire sewn around the segments represents the random hairy strands typical of Horsetail. The hollow structure allows water to travel up the Horsetail walls for water retention.’

‘Giant Horsetail Reed Cluster’ is a collection of hollow waxed linen vessels painted with coffee and walnut inks with pulled thread segments to mimick the structure of the Giant Horsetail Reeds that dominate Pool Meadow.

‘Forest Meadow Stream’ is the biggest textile piece I have created. It is inspired by the beautiful stream in Pool Meadow that reflects the surrounding forest. It was created using linen that has been sewn into, dyed and painted with my natural inks and paints, holes and grommets made from wire to represent stones in the stream, sewn on with naturally-dyed cotton thread, and pulled threads areas that mimic the trickling currents, then waxed with linseed and beeswax.
