'The Feeling of a Forest' - a papier mache sculptu

'The Feeling of a Forest' - a papier mache sculpture made from mulberry paper, encaustic wax, walnut and coffee inks, charcoal, and forest finds - created to convey the feeling of protection, wonder and comfort that a forest offers 🌲

Although this piece is not for sale it will be my primary image for Oxfordshire Artweeks Open Studios event in May 2025 and can be seen alongside many other nature-inspired pieces, my printed cards, artist's books, 2025 calendars and pigment book, The Poetry of Pigments 🎨

There are 12 of my mixed media, nature-inspired pieces from 2024 with descriptions underneath.

Although it is a 2025 calendar due to the format it can be used as a perennial occasions calendar for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

A vessel can be a holding place 🎨

In this case it is a holding place for memories, for grief and for love.

Art is a wonderful, therapeutic way to represent someone's life in a positive way, showing them honour and keeping their memory alive....to let the light shine on a life well-lived.

My mother is represented in this one by so many things she loved - birch bark, cedar bows, music, nature - and I made a little woven piece to represent her maiden name, Weaver and painted the edge with coffee ink, to remember one of my best memories, long breakfasts, drinking coffee together ☕🌿🎼
