Working on antique pieces is a new development in my work and one I really enjoy.
Antique letterpress tray
The antique letterpress tray pieces are perfect for representing a place or process, using ingredients, elements or finds to fill the tiny spaces. The finished product, then, gives the general feeling of the place or process, like an antique mood board!
Drawing on the Past
One of my pieces for the FarmArt exhibition, ‘Drawing on the Past, Looking to the Future’, is an antique copper-framed window with plant collagraphs in some of the windowpanes. The antique aspect represents the past and the windowpane represents looking to the future. This one-of-a-kind window was a treasure that I was fortunate to find because it plays a significant role in the message of this piece about using farming techniques and knowledge from our ancestors and using them to solve our climate crisis in the future.
